MARSHFIELD, MA
I'm Chris McCarthy, a portrait photographer based in Rockland. Marshfield's coastline — barrier beaches, river spits, and classic fishing village waterfronts — gives us some of the most photogenic portrait settings anywhere on the South Shore.

SESSIONS IN MARSHFIELD
Marshfield has more miles of beach and river frontage than almost any town on the South Shore — and that geographic variety gives us an unusual amount of flexibility in what we can create there. The town's shooting spots range from wild open ocean to sheltered estuary to classic New England fishing village, all within a short drive of each other.
Humarock is the most distinctive location in town. The narrow barrier spit separates the South River from the Atlantic, which means you can photograph with water on both sides of the frame. Beach grass, weathered fences, boats on the river, and open ocean horizon — Humarock produces images that look genuinely different from any other South Shore beach. Golden hour here is as good as it gets.
Rexhame Beach is a wide, open ocean beach that works well for family and senior sessions where space and clean horizon are the priority. Brant Rock and Green Harbor give us a fishing village feel — working harbor, lobster boats, seawall, and the kind of authentic coastal character that's increasingly hard to find. This is an ideal setting for branding and headshot clients who want something with texture and story.
I photograph all services in Marshfield: headshots, senior portraits, family portraits, branding photography, maternity sessions, birthday photoshoots, and event coverage.
STUDIO OR ON-LOCATION
My studio in Rockland is about 20 minutes from Marshfield Center and 25 minutes from Humarock. Studio sessions offer a controlled indoor environment with natural light, backdrop options, and full equipment — great for headshots and maternity photography.
For Marshfield clients, the on-location choice is usually clear. When you have Humarock and Rexhame in your backyard, it makes sense to use them.

Humarock is the standout — a narrow barrier spit where the South River meets the Atlantic, offering dramatic dual-water views and some of the best golden-hour light on the South Shore. Rexhame Beach is a wide open ocean beach for family and senior sessions. Brant Rock and Green Harbor offer a fishing village feel with boats, rocky breakwaters, and harbor light.
On-location portrait sessions start at $495. That includes a pre-session consultation, a 30-minute shoot at the location of your choice in Marshfield, and 3 fully retouched images delivered within 2 weeks. Larger packages and specialty sessions are available — reach out for a custom quote. Green Harbor Beach and the Marshfield coastline book fastest in June and September — those sessions fill early and are worth reserving well in advance.
Humarock is a peninsula — narrow enough that you can see water on both sides, with the South River on one side and the open Atlantic on the other. That dual-water geometry creates portrait compositions that look genuinely unique. The beach grass, weathered fences, and unobstructed horizon make for images that feel both wild and personal. Early morning or golden hour are the best times to photograph here.
