WHAT'S INCLUDED
What is included in an on-location headshot session?
We start with a 15-minute planning call: where you'd like to shoot (Hingham Harbor, World's End, your office in Norwell, the dunes at Duxbury — whatever feels like you), what the headshot is for, what you're wearing, and what time of day gives us the best light at that spot. By the time we meet, the plan is locked.
On session day, we work the location for 45 to 90 minutes — multiple framings, two or three angles, an outfit change if you brought one. The natural surroundings do most of the visual work. You don't need to perform; you just need to show up and be yourself.
- ✓ 15-minute pre-session planning call
- ✓ Outdoor session at a South Shore location of your choice
- ✓ Multiple framings, angles, and natural backdrops
- ✓ Fully edited gallery within 2 weeks

WHAT MAKES AN ON-LOCATION HEADSHOT WORK
Why an on-location headshot reads differently than a studio one
A studio headshot solves a specific problem: it gives you a clean, neutral, platform-safe portrait that works on any background and anywhere your image gets pulled — LinkedIn, a company directory, a conference badge, a press release. The job of a studio shot is to disappear behind your face. That's a real and useful job, and it's exactly what Photography Shark's Rockland studio is set up for.
An on-location headshot does the opposite job. It uses the surroundings as a deliberate part of the portrait. A real estate broker shot at Hingham Harbor with the boats visible behind her looks unmistakably like a South Shore broker — a fact that her LinkedIn audience and her listing recipients pick up on instantly, without reading a single word of bio copy. A finance partner shot on the bow of a sailboat in Scituate Harbor reads as this guy is from here in a way no studio gray backdrop can.
The South Shore happens to be a uniquely strong region for this style of headshot. Hingham Harbor at golden hour, the carriage paths at World's End, the granite ledges at Cohasset, the open dunes of Duxbury, the dock pilings of Scituate — all are within 20 minutes of Rockland and all give you something that no studio can. For founders, real estate professionals, financial advisors, attorneys, and creatives whose personal brand is tied to this region, an on-location headshot does work that a studio headshot literally can't.
Practically: I scout the location ahead of time so we're shooting at the right time of day, in the right direction, with backups for wind or sudden cloud cover. We'll usually work two or three setups within a single location to give you frame variety without making the day feel staged. The first 10 minutes are always conversation before the camera comes up — relaxed people photograph better, and that's especially true outdoors where you're aware of passersby.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about on-location headshots
What is the difference between an on-location headshot and a studio headshot?
A studio headshot is shot against a controlled backdrop — clean, neutral, and platform-safe for LinkedIn, company directories, or speaker bios where the focus needs to be entirely on the face. An on-location headshot is shot in your real environment — your office, a South Shore harbor, a tree-lined path at World's End, the bow of a boat in Scituate Harbor — using natural light and the surroundings as visual context. The right choice depends on use case. If you need the cleanest possible profile photo with no distraction, a studio headshot is the standard. If you want a portrait that looks distinctly like you, with a sense of place that supports your personal brand, on-location is better. South Shore Photography focuses on the on-location side — for studio headshots, our sister studio Photography Shark in Rockland is purpose-built for that work.
How long is an on-location headshot session and what is included?
Single-person on-location headshot sessions run 45 to 60 minutes for one look or 90 minutes to two hours for two to three looks with outfit changes. Every session includes a pre-session consultation (wardrobe, location, time of day), the photographic session itself, professional editing of every selected image, and a private online gallery with high-resolution downloads and full print release. Two-week standard turnaround. The price covers all of this — no hidden licensing fees, no upsell pressure at gallery review. For a deeper planning overview, the complete South Shore headshot pillar guide breaks down session types, pricing tiers, and industry-by-industry conventions.
How fast will I get my edited headshots back?
Standard delivery is two weeks from the session date. You receive an email with a private online gallery link, full-resolution downloads, and a print release authorizing professional printing of any image you choose. For yearbook submissions, conference speaker deadlines, brokerage onboarding, or other time-sensitive use cases, rush turnaround can usually be arranged at booking — just flag the deadline when you reach out and we will plan around it. The first three to five preview images can typically be delivered within 48 hours if a single image is needed urgently for an immediate use case.
Can you photograph my whole team or company on location?
Yes — corporate team sessions are a regular booking. For a coordinated team of 5 to 15 professionals, I run an on-site or on-location series at a single backdrop (your office, a nearby harbor, a downtown spot) and pace it at roughly 10 to 15 minutes per person. A 10-person team typically fits in a two-hour block; larger teams can split across a half-day. Lighting and framing stay consistent across the team so the deliverable set works as a unified directory or website refresh. Per-headcount pricing applies with discounts at higher counts — reach out with team size and timeline for a custom quote.
Can I use these for LinkedIn, my company website, and acting submissions?
Yes — you receive high-resolution digital files fully licensed for all digital and print uses, with no platform restrictions. LinkedIn profile photos, company directory images, press kits, author bios, speaker profiles, and acting submissions are all standard uses. For speaker bios specifically, on-location environmental headshots have grown in popularity over the last few years because they show more personality than a flat studio shot. Corporate clients typically use on-location headshots for "About Us" pages, executive bios, conference speaker placements, and longer-form personal branding content where a clean studio profile feels too sterile. You own the files and can use them wherever you need them, for as long as you need them.
