Portrait Photographer in Weymouth, MA

I'm Chris McCarthy, a portrait photographer based in Rockland. Weymouth's parks, ponds, and harbor views make it one of the more underrated portrait destinations on the South Shore — and I've spent time in every corner of it.

What we can create together in Weymouth.

Weymouth doesn't always come up in conversations about scenic South Shore towns, but it absolutely should. The combination of harbor-view peninsulas, freshwater ponds ringed with hardwoods, and tidal rivers gives portrait photographers a genuine variety of backdrops without having to drive all over the region.

Webb Memorial State Park is the gem of Weymouth for portraits. It's a narrow peninsula extending into Hingham Bay, and the views from the point — looking back toward the Boston skyline or out toward the open harbor — are simply stunning. Senior portrait clients love it for the drama. Headshot clients appreciate the clean water backdrop. At sunset, the western-facing shoreline turns amber and the photos practically make themselves.

Whitman's Pond is one of Weymouth's best-kept secrets for portrait work — a large freshwater pond surrounded by mature hardwoods that create beautiful dappled light and rich fall color. It's especially well-suited to family portraits and maternity sessions where you want something warm and intimate rather than dramatic. Great Pond has a similar quality, with the added advantage of quiet walking paths around the perimeter that give us room to move between compositions during a session.

Back River runs along the Weymouth/Hingham border and offers tidal marsh scenery — tall grasses, open water channels, and a genuinely wild feel that reads beautifully in both color and black-and-white portraits.

I photograph all services in Weymouth: headshots, senior portraits, branding photography, family portraits, maternity sessions, birthday photoshoots, and event coverage.

My Rockland studio is 20 minutes south.

My studio at 83 E Water St in Rockland is about 20 minutes from Weymouth — a manageable drive if you want the consistency of an indoor setup. The studio has natural window light and multiple backdrop options, and it's a great option for headshots, corporate portraits, and any session where you want a clean, professional background.

Weymouth's own parks are genuinely good alternatives, though. Webb State Park in particular is one of my go-to spots for clients who want something dramatic and coastal without traveling further south. Many clients do both — a studio session for headshots and an outdoor session at Webb for something more personal.

Weymouth portrait sessions — your questions answered.

Do you travel to Weymouth for sessions?

Yes. I travel to Weymouth regularly for on-location sessions. My studio in Rockland is about 20 minutes south of Weymouth, which makes it easy to do a combined session — studio headshots in the morning and an outdoor portrait shoot at Webb State Park or Whitman's Pond in the afternoon.

What locations do you recommend in Weymouth?

Webb Memorial State Park is my top recommendation in Weymouth — it's a peninsula that juts into Hingham Bay, giving you sweeping harbor and ocean views from every angle. Whitman's Pond is a beautiful freshwater location with wooded shoreline that works especially well for family portraits and maternity sessions. Great Pond offers a similar quiet, reflective quality. Back River has tidal marshes and open water views that feel genuinely wild despite being minutes from the town center.

How much does a portrait session in Weymouth cost?

On-location portrait sessions start at $495. That includes a pre-session consultation, a 30-minute shoot at your chosen Weymouth location, and 3 fully retouched images delivered within 2 weeks. Custom quotes are available for family sessions, senior portrait packages, and branding projects. Webb Memorial State Park and Great Pond offer good variety within a compact area — practical for a focused 30-minute intro session, or as the anchor for a longer family or branding shoot.

Do portrait sessions at Webb Memorial State Park require a permit?

Webb Memorial State Park is a Massachusetts DCR property. Small personal portrait sessions generally don't require a permit, but professional photography sessions can fall into a gray area depending on scope and equipment. I stay current on DCR policies and handle any necessary coordination so you don't have to. I've been shooting at Webb regularly for years — it's one of the most rewarding locations I use on the South Shore.
