PORTRAIT · MATERNITY
This is one of the most extraordinary chapters of your life. Maternity portraits honor it — beautifully, timelessly, and in a way that reflects both where you are and who you're about to become.

YOUR SESSION
Maternity sessions are best scheduled between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round and you're still comfortable and mobile. We plan every detail in advance so that on session day, all you have to do is be present.
We offer studio sessions at our Rockland location with soft, elegant lighting as well as outdoor sessions at beautiful South Shore locations. Partners and older children are warmly welcome — these are family portraits as much as maternity portraits.
EXAMPLES

WHAT TO EXPECT
The 28–34 week window is the sweet spot for maternity portraits — and the reason is practical. Before 28 weeks, the bump is often not quite as defined in photographs as it looks in person. After 34 weeks, many moms are less comfortable being on their feet for an extended session, and the timeline becomes unpredictable as the due date approaches. Booking early in your pregnancy and scheduling the session around week 30–32 gives us the most flexibility while guaranteeing you feel well enough to enjoy it.
The studio vs. outdoor decision comes down to two things: your aesthetic and the time of year. Our Rockland studio gives us complete control over light, mood, and wardrobe — it's warm, private, and flattering in a way that works beautifully with flowing gowns and more intimate, artistic compositions. Outdoor sessions along the South Shore are stunning from late spring through early fall, particularly at golden hour when the low directional light is soft and warm. Many clients who book the Signature Maternity package do a portion of both.
Whether your partner and older children join depends entirely on you. Some moms want the session entirely to themselves — a quiet moment to honor this chapter before everything changes. Others want their family present from the first frame. Both are completely valid, and we structure the session around your preference. If family members are joining at the Rockland studio or on-location, we block time at the end so you have solo portraits first, then bring everyone in when you're warmed up and comfortable.

FAQ
Between 28–36 weeks is the sweet spot for maternity portrait sessions. Your bump is beautifully defined and visible, but you're still comfortable enough to move, stand, and enjoy the session without significant fatigue. We recommend aiming for 30–32 weeks as the ideal target window — early enough that you feel well, late enough that the bump photographs prominently. Book as soon as you know your approximate due date to secure your preferred date and time at our Rockland studio or on the South Shore location of your choice. Popular windows — especially fall and spring outdoor sessions — fill quickly. If you're planning a Signature Maternity session that combines studio and outdoor photography, locking in your date early ensures we have enough flexibility to schedule around optimal light conditions and your comfort level closer to the session date.
We provide personalized wardrobe guidance during your pre-session consultation, tailored to your body, your aesthetic, and the session style you're going for. Many maternity clients at our Rockland studio choose flowing gowns — typically in soft neutrals, blush, ivory, or sage — for the more artistic, timeless looks, and then change into something more casual and comfortable for a second set of images. Form-fitting, stretchy fabrics that highlight the bump photograph beautifully; oversized or boxy clothing can make the pregnancy less visible in photos. We can also recommend local South Shore maternity gown rental options for clients who don't want to invest in a gown they'll only wear once. Whatever you bring, we'll help you select and sequence looks on session day to get the best variety.
Absolutely — and we encourage it for families who want a complete picture of this moment. Including your partner and any older children creates images that capture the full story of your growing family, not just the pregnancy itself. We structure sessions with family inclusion thoughtfully: solo maternity portraits come first, while the expecting mom is freshest and most relaxed, and then we bring in partners and children for family groupings. This approach means you get both intimate solo portraits and genuine family moments without the session feeling rushed or fragmented. Older siblings often produce some of the most emotionally resonant images in the gallery — interacting with mom's bump, sitting together, or just being themselves in the frame. These are consistently among the images families treasure most over time.
Both are beautiful for different reasons, and the right choice depends on your aesthetic preferences, the time of year, and how comfortable you feel outdoors at your stage of pregnancy. Our Rockland studio offers elegant, controlled lighting with a soft, warm aesthetic — it's private, climate-controlled, and ideal for flowing gowns and more intimate, artistic compositions that have a timeless quality. Outdoor sessions on the South Shore are particularly stunning from late spring through early fall, especially at golden hour when the low directional light wraps around you beautifully. Beach locations near Rockland, park settings, and wooded areas all produce strikingly different looks. Clients who book our Signature Maternity package often do a portion of both — studio looks first, then a short outdoor session at a nearby South Shore location.
