Portrait Photographer in Milton, MA
I'm Chris McCarthy, a portrait photographer based in Rockland. Milton sits right on the edge of Blue Hills Reservation — 7,000 acres of forest, granite ledges, and open water that give you more terrain variety in a single session than almost anywhere else on the South Shore. If you want natural settings with real elevation and light, Milton is hard to beat.

SESSIONS IN MILTON
What we can create together in Milton.
Blue Hills Reservation is the primary destination — it's the largest open space within 35 miles of Boston, and the scale means we find privacy even on busy weekends. Houghton's Pond inside the reservation is one of the best-kept portrait secrets on the South Shore: a clear inland pond framed by pine forest, with a sandy beach edge that catches gorgeous evening light. Granite ledges along the Skyline Trail and Chickatawbut Hill give you texture and elevation that photograph unlike anything flatter towns can offer.
Cunningham Park is the go-to for a more traditional, relaxed park feel — mature trees, open lawn, and quiet paths that work especially well for family sessions with young children. The Neponset River Greenway runs along Milton's southern edge with river-edge trails and marsh views; it's particularly strong in fall when the maples along the banks turn. Milton Town Landing gives you river access with an open-water backdrop for anyone who wants water without driving to the coast.

FAQ
Milton portrait sessions — your questions answered.
Do you travel to Milton for portrait sessions?
Yes. Milton is about 25 minutes from my Rockland studio. I photograph there regularly for family portraits, senior sessions, and headshots — most often at Blue Hills Reservation and Houghton's Pond, with Cunningham Park and the Neponset River Greenway as strong alternatives. Reach out and we'll find the right spot and time for your session.
What are the best portrait locations in Milton?
Blue Hills Reservation is the standout — 7,000 acres of forest, granite ledges, and elevation that photograph beautifully in every season. Houghton's Pond inside the reservation gives you open water, a sandy beach edge, and pine-framed light that's hard to find anywhere else on the South Shore. Cunningham Park works well for relaxed family sessions in a classic New England park setting. The Neponset River Greenway adds river-edge paths and marsh views, especially good in fall.
How much does a portrait session in Milton cost?
On-location portrait sessions start at $495. That includes a pre-session consultation, a 30-minute shoot at the location of your choice in Milton, and 3 fully retouched images delivered within 2 weeks. Larger packages and specialty sessions are available — reach out for a custom quote. Blue Hills has enough terrain variety (forest, pond, granite ledges) to justify the full or signature package — 30 minutes barely scratches the surface there.
Is Milton close to the coast for beach sessions?
Wollaston Beach in neighboring Quincy is about 10 minutes from Milton, and Nantasket Beach in Hull is 25–30 minutes away. If you want a beach session but prefer to stay closer to Milton, Wollaston is the most natural fit. Otherwise, Blue Hills and the Neponset corridor give you strong inland settings without the coastal logistics.
