It is calm water rather than surf, which means no wind fighting your dress and no shouting over the waves.

Willow Brook Farm Preserve is the Mass Audubon property off Barker Street, and it photographs unlike anywhere else in Pembroke. Boardwalks cut through wet meadow, tall grasses catch backlight beautifully in late summer, and the observation tower area opens onto a wide sky. This is the location for a soft, pastoral maternity look — flowing gown, warm grasses, very little hard edge anywhere in frame.

Tucker Preserve and Herring Run Park follow the Indian Head River and give you the woodland option. Tucker Preserve has mature tree cover and river-stone banks; Herring Run Park at Luddams Ford adds the historic dam and running water. September and October Saturdays are the most competitive slots on the whole calendar, because senior portrait season runs concurrent with maternity peak.

Most expecting moms bring one polished look — a long flowing gown in a jewel or earth tone, which moves well in the open air at Oldham Pond and reads beautifully against the meadow grasses at Willow Brook Farm — and one relaxed look, a fitted maternity top with denim or a soft cardigan that photographs more like a candid lifestyle moment.

Pembroke’s settings are green and gold rather than blue and grey, so the palette that works here differs from a coastal session. Warm earth tones — rust, camel, cream, sage, dusty rose — sit naturally against pond reflections, meadow, and river woodland. Deep jewel tones like burgundy and emerald give you contrast against summer green. Avoid bright greens, which disappear into the background at every one of these locations, and skip tight horizontal patterns and visible logos.

If your partner is joining, plan their wardrobe to complement rather than match — a neutral solid in cream, sage, navy, or charcoal that pairs with your dress without competing for attention.
