Whitney & Thayer Woods provides the dramatic alternative — 800 acres of mature hardwood forest, stone walls, and woodland trails. 28 to 34 weeks is the photogenic window for maternity portraits — your bump is fully defined but you’re still mobile enough to enjoy a session at Sandy Beach or Whitney & Thayer Woods. Earlier than 28 weeks the bump often doesn’t read as a maternity portrait in clothing; later than 34 weeks the comfort window narrows and weather contingencies get harder to manage. Most expecting moms bring one polished look — a long flowing gown in jewel tone or earth tone that catches the wind beautifully on Sandy Beach or against the Whitney & Thayer Woods tree line — and one relaxed look — a fitted maternity top with denim or a soft cardigan, which photographs more like a candid lifestyle moment than a portrait.

For outdoor Cohasset sessions, fabric texture and movement matter more than tight patterns. Linen, soft knits, flowing chiffon, and structured maternity dresses photograph particularly well in coastal light. Avoid tight horizontal patterns and bold logos — they pull attention away from the subject.
