MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY IN COHASSET, MA
Maternity Photographer in Cohasset, MA
Cohasset’s working harbor, ocean cliffs, and preserved conservation land make it one of the most visually rich towns on the South Shore for maternity portraits — whether at Sandy Beach, Whitney & Thayer Woods, or the studio 18 minutes away in Rockland.

Maternity Photography locations in Cohasset.
Sandy Beach is the best-kept secret on the Cohasset coast for maternity portraits. Smaller and quieter than the better-known Nantasket or Duxbury beaches, it gives expecting moms an intimate setting with sweeping open ocean views and rocky New England coastline. Late-afternoon golden hour here wraps the bump in warm directional light without the crowd you'd hit at peak season at the larger South Shore beaches.
Whitney & Thayer Woods provides the dramatic alternative — 800 acres of mature hardwood forest, stone walls, and woodland trails. The tree canopy creates beautiful dappled light all afternoon, which is more forgiving than full sun for maternity skin tones. Best for early summer through October when the foliage is full. For September and October sessions, the early color change here is striking.
Cohasset Harbor and Cohasset Center give us the option to incorporate a working waterfront or a New England town green. The harbor's white-painted shingled buildings and small fishing boats are a quintessentially South Shore backdrop; the village green is a softer, more pastoral setting if a more refined aesthetic suits the look you're after.
The studio in Rockland is 18 minutes from Cohasset Center via Route 3A. For flowing gown portraits, climate-controlled comfort during late-summer heat or January cold, or simply intimate close-up work, the studio is the right complement to outdoor Cohasset shoots. Many Cohasset clients combine an outdoor session at Sandy Beach with studio portraits in a single extended booking.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS
Maternity Photography sessions in Cohasset — outdoor or studio.
The ideal booking window for maternity portraits is 28–34 weeks — the bump is at its best and you’re still comfortable enough to enjoy an outdoor session. I’ve photographed maternity sessions throughout the South Shore for over 12 years, including dozens at Cohasset coastal locations and Whitney & Thayer Woods.
Partners and older children are welcome in any session. We structure the time so we capture solo portraits first, then bring family into the frame for the group images.

FAQ
Maternity Photography in Cohasset — your questions answered.
Why is Sandy Beach a good location for maternity portraits in Cohasset?
Sandy Beach is smaller and quieter than the well-known South Shore beaches — Nantasket, Duxbury — which means you get the same dramatic open-ocean backdrop without the weekend crowds. The smaller scale also reads more intimate in portraits, which works particularly well for maternity sessions where the focus is the expecting mom and her partner, not the landscape. Golden hour here is the best window.
When should I schedule my maternity session in Cohasset?
28–34 weeks is the ideal window. Your bump is fully defined and visible, but you're still comfortable enough to enjoy an outdoor session at Sandy Beach or Whitney & Thayer Woods. For spring and fall sessions in Cohasset — when the light is best and the foliage adds dimension — book 6–8 weeks in advance to secure your preferred Saturday.
Do you offer studio maternity sessions near Cohasset?
Yes. My studio at 83 E Water Street in Rockland is 18 minutes from Cohasset Center via Route 3A. Studio sessions are climate-controlled and private — ideal for flowing gown looks and intimate portraits. Many Cohasset clients combine an outdoor session at Sandy Beach or Whitney & Thayer Woods with studio portraits in a single extended booking.
How much does a maternity session in Cohasset cost?
Maternity sessions start at $395. That includes a pre-session consultation, your session at the Cohasset location of your choice or at the studio, and a fully retouched online gallery delivered within two weeks. Note: Whitney & Thayer Woods is a Trustees of Reservations property and Sandy Beach has resident-only parking restrictions in peak season; I handle entry coordination at booking. WHEN TO BOOK
Timing your Cohasset maternity session.
28 to 34 weeks is the photogenic window for maternity portraits — your bump is fully defined but you’re still mobile enough to enjoy a session at Sandy Beach or Whitney & Thayer Woods. Earlier than 28 weeks the bump often doesn’t read as a maternity portrait in clothing; later than 34 weeks the comfort window narrows and weather contingencies get harder to manage. I’ll often book at the 24-week consultation so we have flexibility on the actual session date depending on weather and how you’re feeling.
Cohasset’s outdoor season for maternity sessions runs from late April through early November. May and June give us the softest light at Sandy Beach, with longer evenings to play with golden hour. Late September and October at Whitney & Thayer Woods is the peak fall foliage window — the hardwood forest there turns vibrant for a brief 10-14 day stretch, and Cohasset’s coastal microclimate often pushes peak color a few days later than inland South Shore towns. For winter or peak summer heat, the Rockland studio becomes the right call — climate-controlled, private, and only 18 minutes from Cohasset Center.
Book 6 to 8 weeks ahead of your target date during peak spring and fall. Saturday and Sunday golden-hour slots fill first; midweek availability is broader if your schedule allows. Class of 2027 senior portrait season runs concurrent with maternity peak — September and October Saturdays are the most competitive booking window across the whole portrait calendar.
WHAT TO WEAR
What to wear for a Cohasset maternity session.
Two outfits typically gives us enough variety without rushing the session. Most expecting moms bring one polished look — a long flowing gown in jewel tone or earth tone that catches the wind beautifully on Sandy Beach or against the Whitney & Thayer Woods tree line — and one relaxed look — a fitted maternity top with denim or a soft cardigan, which photographs more like a candid lifestyle moment than a portrait.
For outdoor Cohasset sessions, fabric texture and movement matter more than tight patterns. Linen, soft knits, flowing chiffon, and structured maternity dresses photograph particularly well in coastal light. Avoid tight horizontal patterns and bold logos — they pull attention away from the subject. Solid jewel tones (deep teal, rust, burgundy, navy, emerald) and muted earth tones (warm beige, sage, dusty rose) photograph cleanest against both the open ocean and wooded settings.
If partners are joining the session, plan their wardrobe to complement rather than match. A neutral solid (cream, sage, navy, dark charcoal) that pairs with your dress without competing for visual focus works best. Older children in coordinated but not matched outfits — pulling colors from the same family — create a cohesive family-portrait feel without the awkward formal-matchy aesthetic. We can walk through the full wardrobe plan during the pre-session consultation.
