Maternity Photographer in Duxbury, MA
Duxbury's five-mile barrier beach, the dune grass at Powder Point, and the historic grounds of the King Caesar House make it one of the most distinctive places on the South Shore for maternity portraits — with the studio 20 minutes away in Rockland for clean-background work.

LOCATIONS IN DUXBURY
Maternity portrait locations in Duxbury.
Duxbury Beach is the iconic location — almost five uninterrupted miles of barrier beach with open dunes, dune grass, and an unbroken Atlantic horizon. The ocean side is where we shoot the classic full-coverage maternity look: bump silhouetted against open sky, wind in the gown, the kind of frame that feels timeless. Late spring and early fall give the cleanest light and most comfortable temperatures — well worth booking around.
Powder Point and the bay side are the quieter alternative. Cross over the Powder Point Bridge and you're on a west-facing stretch of dune grass and reflective tidal flats — perfect for sunset silhouettes and the soft, golden sidelight coming off the bay. It's also a calmer setting than the ocean side, which matters if you want a more intimate, less wind-blown feel for your portraits.
The King Caesar House grounds give Duxbury its inland option — a historic 18th-century estate with mature shade trees, open fields, and a real sense of place. It's a good fit for clients who want the Duxbury setting without the beach itself, or who are pairing maternity portraits with a more formal gown look. The combination of architecture and landscape opens up compositions you can't get on the dunes.
Duxbury Bay shoreline at low tide is the under-the-radar option. The bay drains into wide, reflective sand flats — textural, mirror-like, with a sense of openness that feels nothing like a typical beach session. Timed right against the tide chart and sunset, it produces some of the most unusual maternity frames I shoot anywhere on the South Shore.
The studio in Rockland is about 20 minutes from Duxbury via Route 3. For flowing gown portraits, intimate close-up work, or winter sessions when the beach is off the table, the studio is the right call. Many Duxbury clients combine a sunset session at Duxbury Beach or Powder Point with a studio portion in a single extended booking.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS
Maternity sessions in Duxbury — outdoor or studio.
The ideal booking window for maternity portraits is 28–34 weeks — the bump is at its best and you're still comfortable enough to walk dunes, sand, and the Powder Point bridge area. I've photographed maternity sessions across Duxbury since 2014, including many at the beach and along the bay side at Powder Point.
Partners and older children are welcome in any session. We structure the time to give you solo portraits first, then bring in family for the group images — especially natural at golden hour on the beach.

FAQ
Maternity photography in Duxbury — your questions answered.
Why is Duxbury Beach a good location for maternity portraits?
Duxbury Beach is one of the longest barrier beaches in New England — almost five uninterrupted miles of open dunes, dune grass, and Atlantic horizon. The scale is what makes it special for maternity work: the open sky gives soft directional light at golden hour, and the dunes create natural privacy and framing. The west-facing bay side at Powder Point catches sunset light coming off the water that's genuinely hard to find anywhere else on the South Shore.
When should I schedule my maternity session in Duxbury?
28–34 weeks is the ideal window. Your bump is fully defined and visible, but you're still comfortable walking on sand and dunes. For Duxbury Beach specifically, late spring and early fall give the warmest light and most workable temperatures — book 6–8 weeks in advance to secure golden hour on a weekend, since beach maternity slots are the first to fill.
Do you offer studio maternity sessions near Duxbury?
Yes. My studio at 83 E Water Street in Rockland is about 20 minutes from Duxbury via Route 3. Studio sessions are climate-controlled and private — ideal for flowing gown looks, intimate close-up portraits, and winter sessions when the beach is off the table. Many Duxbury clients combine a sunset session at Duxbury Beach or Powder Point with a studio portion in one extended booking.
How much does a maternity session in Duxbury cost?
On-location maternity sessions start at $495. That includes a pre-session consultation, your session at the location of your choice in Duxbury, and a fully retouched online gallery. Note: Duxbury Beach has a seasonal resident parking restriction at the main lot — I handle access coordination at booking and we adjust to Powder Point or the bay side if needed. Reach out for a complete pricing breakdown and current availability.
Is Powder Point a better choice than the ocean side for maternity?
It depends on the look you want. The ocean side gives you classic Atlantic horizon, big sky, and more dramatic surf. Powder Point and the bay side are quieter, with reflective tidal flats and that west-facing sunset light off the water — better for silhouettes and softer, more intimate compositions. Most of my Duxbury maternity sessions include a stop at both sides so we capture the full range.
