Family Portraits locations in Duxbury.

Duxbury Beach gives families space — real, genuine space to spread out, move around, let kids be kids, and still create images that feel composed and intentional. The long barrier beach, open horizon, and dune grass backdrop are classic South Shore, and the beach is long enough that we almost always find a section with room to work. Sunset sessions here are exceptional.

Powder Point Bridge adds a visual anchor to any Duxbury family session. The historic wooden bridge with harbor and beach behind it is one of the most recognizable landscapes in the area — families who grew up on the South Shore often specifically request it. It works especially well as a mid-session stop between beach and parking.

Bay Farm on the Duxbury/Kingston line is a quieter alternative for families who want coastal character without open-ocean wind and beach logistics. Tidal flats, salt marsh, and bay views at low tide create a calmer, more intimate setting that's often easier to work in with young children.

Family Portraits in Duxbury — your questions answered.

Is Duxbury Beach a good location for family portraits?

Yes — it's one of the most popular family portrait locations on the South Shore. The open barrier beach gives children room to move, and the wide horizon and dune grass create compositions that feel both spacious and intimate. Sessions work best at golden hour (last 90 min before sunset) when the light is warm and directional.

How far in advance should we book a Duxbury Beach family session?

For summer and fall sessions, 6–8 weeks in advance is ideal. Golden-hour slots (60–90 min before sunset) book out fastest, especially in September and October. Spring sessions have more flexibility. Reach out as early as possible to secure your preferred date.

What should our family wear for a Duxbury Beach session?

Coordinated neutrals and soft tones — whites, creams, khakis, navy, soft blues — photograph beautifully against the sand and ocean backdrop. Avoid very bright or neon colors that compete with the landscape. Layers work well for coastal sessions where the wind can pick up. Bare feet on the beach is almost always the right call.

How much does a family portrait session in Duxbury cost?

Family portrait sessions start at $495. That includes a pre-session consultation, a 60-minute session at the location of your choice in Duxbury, and 30+ fully retouched images in an online gallery within 2 weeks. Note: Duxbury Beach is widest at mid tide; Powder Point Bridge looks great at any tide. I check the tide window when scheduling. Reach out for a full pricing breakdown.
