Family Portrait Photographer in Hull, MA

Hull is a narrow peninsula surrounded by water on three sides — Nantasket Beach on the ocean side, harbor views at Pemberton Point, and a dramatic coastal character that is unlike anywhere else on the South Shore.

Where we shoot in Hull.

Nantasket Beach is one of the longest beaches in Massachusetts and the anchor location for Hull family portraits. The wide open sand, consistent surf, and unobstructed eastern exposure make it excellent for sunrise sessions. In the evenings from late August through October, the light on Nantasket hits at a low angle that gives family portraits a rich, warm quality. The beach is long enough that you can find a private stretch even when it is busy.

Windmill Point at the southern end of Hull offers elevated views of Hull Bay and the harbor entrance — a dramatic backdrop that does not look like standard beach portraiture. It is a small, quiet spot that works especially well for smaller family groups who want something more intimate and unique.

Pemberton Point on the northern tip is the most dramatic location in Hull. The views extend across to Hingham Harbor and out to the Boston Harbor Islands. At golden hour, the light reflects off the water in every direction. For families who want images that feel genuinely cinematic, this is the spot.

Family portraits in Hull — coastal and dramatic.

My studio in Rockland is about 30 minutes from Hull via Route 228 and Hull Shore Drive. The drive is straightforward, and Hull's geography means that once you are there, all three of the main portrait locations are within 10 minutes of each other.

Hull works especially well for evening sessions from late August through October — the light is exceptional, the beach crowds thin significantly after Labor Day, and the harbor views at Pemberton Point in October are hard to match anywhere on the South Shore.

Family portraits in Hull — your questions answered.

What makes Hull a good location for family portraits?

Hull is a narrow peninsula with water on three sides, giving it more dramatic coastal scenery than most South Shore beach towns. Nantasket Beach is one of the longest in Massachusetts. Windmill Point and Pemberton Point offer harbor views and Boston skyline in the distance — variety that is hard to match anywhere else on the South Shore.

When is the best time for family portraits at Nantasket Beach?

Early morning in summer (before 9am) and golden hour evening sessions from mid-August through October are the two best windows. The fall shoulder season is genuinely ideal: the beach is less crowded, the light is warm and low, and the water is still warm enough for families who want to get near it.

How long does a family portrait session in Hull take?

Most family sessions run 60-90 minutes. Hull's compact geography makes it easy to hit two very different spots — Nantasket Beach for broad coastal images and Pemberton Point for a harbor view — within a single session without significant driving between them.

How much does a family portrait session in Hull cost?

Family portrait sessions start at $495. That includes a pre-session consultation, a 60-90 minute on-location session, and 40+ fully retouched images in an online gallery within 2 weeks. Reach out for full pricing and availability.
