MATERNITY LOCATIONS IN QUINCY
Beautiful settings for your maternity portraits.
Wollaston Beach is Quincy's premier outdoor portrait location — a long stretch of Boston Harbor shoreline with wide open sky, soft harbor light, and the quiet city skyline in the background. For maternity portraits, the west-facing beach produces beautiful warm light as the sun drops toward the Boston skyline, creating silhouette opportunities that are almost impossible to replicate anywhere else on the South Shore. The long open beach gives the session room to breathe, with multiple distinct looks available without moving more than a few hundred feet.
Best time of day: 90 minutes before sunset for golden-hour warmth; the Boston skyline silhouette works right at sundown. Best season: June through October — summer evenings are longest, and fall light has the most warmth. Access: Free parking along Quincy Shore Drive, flat walking surface the entire length. No rough terrain — important at 30+ weeks. Restrooms available at the beach pavilion.
Marina Bay is an underused gem for maternity sessions — a modern waterfront development with smooth walkways, harbor-facing benches, and clean architectural lines. The aesthetic is more polished and contemporary than the natural beach look at Wollaston. For expecting mothers who want a modern, editorial feel rather than a sandy-beach look, Marina Bay gives you waterfront light with a sleek backdrop. Seated poses on the harbor benches work especially well for third-trimester comfort.
Best time of day: Late afternoon through golden hour. Best season: Year-round — the modern architecture and smooth surfaces work in every season. Access: Ample parking in the Marina Bay garage, all walkways are level and paved. Benches every 50 feet for seated breaks.
Merrymount Park offers a quieter, more intimate alternative — wooded paths, open lawn areas, and the sheltered character of a well-loved neighborhood park. For expecting mothers who prefer a softer, more private setting over an open beach, Merrymount provides exactly that: a calm, leafy environment that produces warm, natural portraits.
Blue Hills Reservation adds a fourth dimension to Quincy maternity sessions — dramatic granite terrain, forest trails, and elevation that creates a genuinely different backdrop from any coastal or park setting. Blue Hills works especially well in October, when the foliage creates natural warmth and color around every frame. I recommend this location for early-second-trimester clients who are still comfortable with moderate terrain — the trails have some uneven sections that become harder to navigate past 32 weeks.
ABOUT THE SESSIONS
Maternity portraits that honor this moment.
South Shore Photography is based in Rockland, about 25 minutes from Quincy. I specialize in outdoor natural-light maternity portraits — relaxed, unhurried sessions that document the real emotion and beauty of this time rather than producing posed, stiff images that feel disconnected from how pregnancy actually feels.
Quincy's combination of beach, waterfront, park, and reservation options means we can design a session that matches exactly what you want — coastal and expansive, modern and editorial, intimate and wooded, or dramatic and elevated. Many clients choose two locations in one session to get that variety.
I always check tide tables before confirming a Wollaston Beach session — the widest sand and best footing happen about 1–2 hours before low tide. For Marina Bay sessions, timing is more flexible since the walkways are above the waterline regardless of tide. We talk through all of this during the pre-session consultation so there are no surprises on session day.
If you're planning a maternity session in Quincy and want guidance on timing, wardrobe, or how to involve your partner and older children, I've written a detailed guide that covers the full planning process from booking through gallery delivery — see the link below.

BRINGING YOUR FAMILY
Including partners and older children.
Partners and older children are welcome at every Quincy maternity session — and most clients bring them. I structure the session to photograph the expecting mom solo first, then add the partner for couple portraits, and bring in older children toward the end when the mood is natural and relaxed.
Wollaston Beach and Marina Bay are the best Quincy locations for sessions with toddlers — flat surfaces, no tripping hazards, and enough open space for little ones to move without anyone worrying. Merrymount Park works well for older children who enjoy a park environment. Partners and children are included at no additional cost.
WHAT TO EXPECT
How a Quincy maternity session works.
After booking, we have a phone consultation where we choose the location (or locations), talk through wardrobe options, and plan the session around your comfort level and the best light for that time of year. I share a preparation guide with everything from parking directions to suggested arrival time.
On session day, we meet at the location and spend about 60 minutes photographing. I start with solo portraits of the expecting mom, then bring in a partner for couple shots, and finish with any older siblings if they're joining. The session is relaxed, gently guided, and paced around how you're feeling — nobody is rushed.
Your gallery of 20–30+ fully retouched images is delivered within 5–7 business days via a private online gallery. Partners and children are included at no additional cost.
WHAT TO WEAR
Wardrobe planning for your Quincy maternity session.
For Wollaston Beach sessions, flowing fabrics in warm earth tones — terracotta, dusty rose, sage, warm cream — photograph beautifully against the water and sky. Avoid pure white (it overpowers in open sunlight) and avoid busy patterns (they compete with the natural backdrop). A flowing maxi dress or maternity gown in a solid warm tone is the classic choice.
For Marina Bay sessions, the modern architecture supports slightly more polished wardrobe choices — a fitted dress, a clean blouse with high-waisted pants, or a structured maternity gown all work well against the clean lines. The color palette can trend cooler here (navy, soft gray, muted blue) since the architectural backdrop provides its own warmth.
Most clients bring two outfits — one for the primary location and one for a change midway through. I send a detailed wardrobe guide with example outfits specific to the Quincy locations and the season after booking.
SEASONAL PLANNING
When to schedule your Quincy maternity session.
Spring (April – May) — Merrymount Park is at its best in spring when the wooded paths are lined with fresh green canopy and soft light. Wollaston Beach spring evenings are cooler and less crowded, with clean, directional light off the harbor.
Summer (June – August) — Wollaston Beach is the star in summer. Long evenings mean more golden-hour time, and the Boston skyline silhouette at sunset is at its most dramatic when the sky stays warm past 8 PM. Marina Bay is equally strong — smooth walkways and harbor breeze keep things comfortable even on humid days.
Fall (September – October) — The most popular season. Wollaston's light goes warm and golden, and Blue Hills Reservation foliage peaks in mid-October. Book 6 weeks ahead for fall weekend dates.
Winter (November – March) — Outdoor sessions in Quincy are weather-dependent in winter. Marina Bay works on clear days — the modern architecture provides structure regardless of season. For guaranteed comfort, the Rockland studio is 25 minutes south and available year-round.
